George Assafo Charr was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and has been living in Miami, Florida, since the age of five. He is an incoming freshman at the University of Miami and is graduating from Miami Country Day School.
Since childhood, he has been interested in building design and development. His most recent architectural experience has been his involvement in an internship with Stratus Architects. Throughout over 400 hours of work involving conversations, intensive SketchUp and AutoCAD use, 3D printing, model-building, and more, he has realized that architecture reflects deeper meaning than mere aesthetics, such as the consideration of people’s usage, comfort, efficiency, and overall experience within and throughout a project.
Currently, his passion for architecture involves a new purpose: the concept of urban responsibility. This encompasses an architect’s responsibility to consider a project’s overall effect on its surroundings, such as how it harmonizes with its surrounding culture, physical landscape, and people, while providing a clear benefit to the community. It also considers the mood or feeling an architectural piece reflects on an individual. Through urban responsibility, he hopes to improve numerous communities and encourage others to do the same.
