The Octagon, Washington, D.C.
FREE & Open to All Ages!

Bring the whole family for a dynamic day of discovery, design, and fun—centered around our current exhibition, Creative Resilience: Carbon + Complexity.

This exhibit explores how architectural shading devices can unite design, sustainability, and human connection. Featuring innovative student work, Creative Resilience highlights how digital design transforms ornamentation into a tool for biophilic, climate-conscious solutions.

Family Day Activities Include:

Scavenger Hunt – Explore The Octagon and uncover architectural clues throughout the historic space.
Word Searches – Engage with architecture-themed puzzles designed for all ages.
Design Your Own Biophilic Space – Use natural patterns and elements to create your own vision of a sustainable, nature-inspired environment.

We’ll be joined by students and professors from the Howard University Architecture Program, who will help lead hands-on activities and share their expertise on climate-responsive, people-centered design.

This interactive event invites visitors of all ages to engage with the future of architecture and see how it can transform lives, foster equity, and spark resilient, environmentally conscious solutions for a better world.
