Julia Weatherspoon is an architectural designer at SmithGroup in San Francisco, CA. She focuses on how we can use design as a tool to better shape our built environment and adequately address the needs of a wide range of users to elevate the human experience. Julia is on a mission to create more inclusive spaces within design and is committed to pushing the narrative for design excellence to increase visibility and representation in design. She is passionate about exploring more equitable design practices and social responsibility initiatives to better serve underrepresented communities. Julia is involved in various advocacy communities including various pipeline programs for youth to be better educated and exposed to arts and science education.

Julia is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and involved in Equity x Design, AIASF mentorship committee, and Bay Area Young Architects. Julia also holds a leadership position on the board for the San Francisco Chapter of National Organization of Minority Architects. Most recently, she was featured in AIA+Architect Magazine on the topic of inclusive design within local communities and for her efforts in equity, diversity, and inclusion. She has spoken at an array of events on this topic and uses first-hand experiences and expertise to address environmental injustices and social issues that relate to the built environment.
