Melissa, originally from Denver, Colorado, attends the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She is a 4th year pursuing a Master’s in Architecture. Melissa has interned at Schwerdt Design Group in Topeka, Kansas and HMN Architects in Overland Park, Kansas. She is currently researching healthcare access in rural America with HDR in Omaha, Nebraska. Last fall, Melissa spent four months studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. This experience allowed her to travel throughout Europe and deeply enrich her architectural knowledge.
In addition to the Architects Foundation / McAslan Fellowship, Melissa has also received scholarships and awards from the University of Kansas, the Tile Contractor’s Association of America, and the Architectural Precast Association.
Melissa has a passion for health and wellness architecture and historical preservation. These two passions have helped to develop her interest in community-centered design and holistic design solutions that incorporate human well-being as well as sustainable design.
