Alex Mendoza, Associate AIA, NOMA, is a first-generation Mexican American and lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He earned his Master of Architecture from Kansas State University in 2023 and currently serves as a Junior Architect at HTK Architects. His work focuses on educational design, thoughtfully combining creativity with a deep understanding of how the built environment shapes learning, meaningful community engagement, and a sense of belonging.
Committed to service and advocacy, Alex has coordinated community partnerships and collaborative initiatives through the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Legacy Project, a national program revitalizing underserved neighborhoods through design and community engagement. He also serves on NOMA Kansas City’s Education + Outreach Committee, collaborating on Project Pipeline, a camp introducing underrepresented youth to architecture as a pathway for empowerment, identity, and personal representation.
Furthering his dedication to mentorship and leadership, Alex volunteers with ACE Mentorship and PREP-KC and is an alumnus of AIA Kansas City’s PIERS Emerging Professional Cohort. For him, architecture is more than a profession; it is a lifelong calling shaped by his upbringing, guided by purpose, and fueled by a passionate desire to empower future generations through the leadership once absent.
