E.J. Shin (EunJin) is a courageous optimist and interdisciplinary designer dedicated to meaningful problem-solving through collaboration and integrity; she navigates the intersection of qualitative and quantitative methodologies in both practice and theory, striving to bridge disciplines through logic-building and human-centered design, with her current research exploring the relationship between human behavioral science and architecture, commonly known as neuroarchitecture. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University at Buffalo, a Master of Architecture from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP), and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Columbia’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. Her work has been recognized through prestigious fellowships, including the Percival & Naomi Goodman Fellowship, the 2024 CRIT Scholar Award in partnership with the American Institute of Architects, and the NYMTC/DOT 9/11 Memorial Fellowship. As a designer and partner at OQ2D, a design atelier, and with prior experience as both a structural engineer in the civic and public transportation industry and an architectural designer, she has contributed to small private projects and exhibitions, bringing a unique perspective to her work; her latest projects exemplify her commitment to developing narratives that balance qualitative and quantitative design methodologies.
