Frida Salinas-Figueroa will be attending the University of California, Berkeley to study Architecture in the College of Environmental Design. She was raised in Hollister, a small agricultural town in California, where her passion for helping the Latino community began with her own family’s story. Her grandparents were farm workers who valued education deeply, encouraging her parents to attend college and inspiring her to carry forward their legacy through learning and service.
As she pursues architecture, Frida hopes to use it to advocate for communities often overlooked or dismissed. She imagines spaces that reduce waste, support local food systems, and offer meaningful benefits to both people and the planet. She aspires to create programs that build sustainable homes with features like home gardens, recycling systems, and green energy spaces that allow families to grow their own food, reduce waste, and live in ways that support their well-being. Sustainability will be the foundation of her work because the health of a community is inseparable from the health of its environment. Through architecture, she aims to honor her family’s resilience and build a future where every community has the dignity of a safe, sustainable home.
