Khalid Jasir Mills, who goes by Jasir, is an emerging Design Professional based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally, he is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He grew up in a lower-income neighborhood and had very limited access to learning about the Built Environment. After attending Early College of Forsyth, he obtained his high school diploma and his associate’s degree. Afterwards, he went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Master of Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
His exposure to design began with his love for sketching and playing video games. For him, Architecture is a passion, art form, science, expression, and tool for social change. He has always enjoyed learning about the impact of built space and the resources that it can provide for communities congruent to the ones that have shaped him. As he continues his pursuit for licensure, he wants to continue to leave open doors for less visible identities and voices in the world of Architecture. He is honored to have been selected by the Architects Foundation for this award and investment into the future of the profession.
