My name is Khalid Jasir Mills. I go by Jasir. I am an emerging Design Professional based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally, I am from Winston Salem, North Carolina. I grew up in a lower income neighborhood and had very limited access to learning about the Built Environment. After attending Early College of Forsyth, I obtained my high school diploma and my associate’s degree. Afterwards, I went on to obtain my Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Master of Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My exposure to design began with my love for sketching and playing video games. For me, Architecture is a passion; art form; science; expression; and tool for social change. I have always enjoyed learning about the impact of built space and the resources that it can provide for communities congruent to the ones that have shaped me. As I continue my pursuit for licensure, I want to continue to leave open doors for less visible identities and voices in the world of Architecture. I am honored to have been selected by the Architects Foundation for this award and investment into the future of the profession.
