Luke Sera-Tacorda is an incoming freshman at Washington University in St. Louis's Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. Born in Tokyo and educated in the San Francisco Bay Area, the complementary relationship between nature and the built environment inspires his love for design.
His path into design has been hands-on: programs at UC Berkeley and Washington University introduced him to drafting and modeling, while an internship at San Francisco firm AT6 put him in front of real clients and real constraints.
Outside the studio, his practice as a graphite artist grounds him in close observation. Last fall, his first solo exhibition at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center featured realistic portraits of twelve local elders. In college, he looks forward to designing spaces with that same people-first approach.
