Nia Fletcher is a fifth-year Bachelor of Architecture student at Tulane University, graduating in May 2027. Raised in Seattle, Washington, Nia discovered architecture through the encouragement of generous neighbors who were architecture professors and by participating in the ACE Mentorship Program for two years. Those early experiences introduced architecture not only as a profession, but as a creative way to connect people and place.
Throughout their education, Nia has sought opportunities that expand both their perspective and their understanding of the profession. They spent the past academic year studying abroad in Berlin, Germany, and Kyoto, Japan, experiences that deepened their interest in cultural architecture and the relationship between art, history, built environment. Through design competitions, internships, and international study, they have come to appreciate that there is no single way to practice architecture, but countless ways to approach design with creativity and purpose.
Beyond the studio, Nia is passionate about building community within the profession. They have served as President of Tulane NOMAS, currently represent students nationwide as the National Student Representative on the NOMA Board, and recently joined the AIAS Board. These leadership experiences have reinforced their belief that meaningful leadership begins with leading by example and that strong communities are essential to the future of architecture.
As both an artist and designer, Nia is drawn to the intersection of painting, poetry, and architecture. They enjoy exploring how artistic practice can bring curiosity, emotion, and humanity into a discipline that is often perceived as highly structured. Outside of architecture, Nia enjoys painting, rowing, running, traveling, and baking.
Looking ahead, Nia hopes to be known as an architect who pursued every opportunity with curiosity, embraced every facet of the profession, and created work that celebrates culture, creativity, and community.
