Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship

The Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship is a $10,000 architecture scholarship supporting a woman studying architecture within a NAAB-accredited bachelor or master’s degree program. To help the scholarship recipient establish contacts within the profession, she will be assigned a senior mentor from Payette for the scholarship year.

This scholarship honors Sho-Ping, FAIA, who was a leader in AIA and a long-time principal and healthcare practice leader at Payette. Sho-Ping was a talented and compassionate architect who was fiercely determined to design healthcare architecture of the highest caliber for those in need. She was also a wonderful mentor, and instilled in her teams a sense of camaraderie and commitment to design. As the founding leader of the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit, held biennially, Sho-Ping was instrumental in defining the national discourse for Women in Design.

To be eligible for the Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Identify as a woman
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • US Citizen
  • Rising 3rd or 4th year undergraduate or graduate student in NAAB-accredited architecture program

Previous Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply in subsequent years.

Applicants must submit:

  • A comprehensive essay that discusses the influence of architecture and architects to improve the human condition and quality of life (1,200 words)
  • A professional resume
  • Two letters of recommendation*
  • A portfolio (5-15 works)
