Happy Architecture Week!

The Octagon was built in 1799 as a winter residence for Col. John Tayloe III and his wife Anne Ogle Tayloe. Its unique design, beautiful craftsmanship, and iconic features have inspired architects for centuries. Click here to download our Octivity Series to inspire your little architects today!

POSTPONED: Family Yoga: Structural Design for Well Being
Stay tuned for a new date announcement.

Kick off Architecture Week 2024 with the Architects Foundation and District Architecture Center’s Heidi Sohng!

Join us for a FREE and fun yoga class as we experience the wonders of the built environment. What does it feel like to be a tall column? Or a castle wall? How about a dome, or a vault? Kids will play with the shapes of their bodies to imagine how strong and flexible we can be, especially when we work together! Time for relaxation and coloring.

Recommended for ages 3-8. Yoga mats will be provided for kids, parents are encouraged to bring their own mats. Please RSVP, capacity will be limited.

I Was Here
Ongoing

I Was Here is an art installation commemorating the lives of the enslaved people who built and worked at The Octagon. This is a part of The Octagon’s initiative to reveal the role enslaved craftspeople played in creating the architectural canon nationally.
